In February last year the lives of all of us at Synergy, and that of many of our customers, were deeply touched when one of our senior consultants, Elna Britz, was tragically killed in a car accident on the way to our year-end event. Elna lived life to the full so that her sudden death not only shocked us all but also left a gaping hole in our team, which we’ve come to realise is near impossible to fill.Not only was Elna a loyal employee and a well-skilled and dedicated consultant, she was also an extraordinarily generous person who consistently used her resources to serve others in the most profound ways. During the past year I’ve often wondered what we could do to honour the life of this well-loved and much respected colleague and friend, and at the same time do something that Elna was passionate about: serving the cause of those less fortunate than ourselves. After weighing up our options we’ve settled on a charity golf day, and so was born the Elna Britz Annual Memorial, an event earmarked to benefit a different charity each year. These charities will be carefully selected to ensure that funds flow to those who need it most. It is not our aim to immortalise the memory of Elna – that will live on unaided in the hearts of family, friends and colleagues-turned-friends. It is, instead, our aim to continue to impact the lives of those desperate for an act of kindness with the grace and generosity that marked Elna’s life and her interaction with each one of us.
